Picking the Perfect Location for Your Elopement: 5 Easy Tips
One of the most common questions couples run into when planning their elopement is how to decide where to elope. There are so many different options for elopement locations, and it’s natural to feel overwhelmed by all the choices. This is a super important day in your relationship story, and it makes perfect sense that you’d want the location to be beautiful, unique, and inspiring.
To help you figure out what location would be best for your elopement, here are 5 simple tips!
5 Tips to Decide Where to Elope
Tip 1. Choose a location you’ve never been to, or one the two of you already love
Is there a place the two of you have always wanted to go? It could be someplace you’ve wanted to travel to for a long time, or you may have only recently found yourself inspired with the idea of seeing a certain place. Either way, exploring a whole new location together is a great way to bring excitement and adventure into your elopement day experience.
If you’d rather go someplace familiar, you can choose a location the two of you have shared memories in. Was it your first trip together? The first national park you ever visited? Even though you’ve already been there, being able to make one of your favorite places the center of your elopement will create an even deeper affection for a place you already love so much.
Tip 2. Choose a location based on season and climate
If you don’t necessarily have a specific place in mind but you know you want to elope with certain weather, choosing your elopement location based on season is a great way to give yourself a fun new experience, all while enjoying the time of year the two of you feel most comfortable!
For example, if you wanted to see the best fall colors for your elopement, I would recommend eloping somewhere in New England! This area of the US is famous for its gorgeous fall colors covering the entire region, and there’s just something about it that feels comforting, cozy, and peaceful. I really believe weather plays a huge role in how much you’ll end up enjoying your elopement day, so picking the season you love most will help the two of you feel right at home.
Tip 3. Choose a location that can easily transition into your honeymoon
There’s only so much adventuring you can do in a day or two, and sometimes if you have a specific activity or site you want to see within your elopement location, you might have to miss out on some other places you’d really like to explore. To truly see all of what you want in the incredible spot you picked out, keep exploring over the next few days for your honeymoon!
This is also super convenient because you might be able to stay in the same hotel or Airbnb the whole time, and it cuts back on the amount of time it would take to travel to another location for your honeymoon.
All you have to do is pick a location for your elopement that has places you can stay for a few days after, offering all the local sightseeing, activities, and food you’re looking forward to on your honeymoon.
Tip 4. Choose a location that excites and inspires you
This is a subjective one, because everyone is going to have a different emotional reaction to different places. The place you elope should hold some kind of significance for you, as that’s what will give you the most beautiful photos and the best experience possible. The best way to create an atmosphere where those feelings can run free is to elope somewhere that inspires you.
I prefer mountains and rocky coastlines myself, so eloping someplace flat and tropical probably wouldn’t be a very good fit for me. Think about the kind of landscapes, scenery, and activities you enjoy doing. Do they all center around one type of location? Can you see yourself getting married there?
Tip 5. Choose a location you can come back to again and again
Wherever you decide to elope, picking a location that you can come back to for anniversaries in the years to come will remind you of the special experiences you shared there. You can make it an annual trip, or plan a vow renewal there after a few years to celebrate how far you’ve come. Your elopement location will always hold meaning for the two of you, and reminiscing on those memories right where they happened is a beautiful way to honor your marriage commitment and grow even closer to each other.
